What are our free courses and who are they for?

Our free online courses have been developed by our specialist neurorehabilitation team to provide practical, evidence-based information for people affected by brain injury. Whether you’re living with the effects of a brain injury yourself, or supporting a family member or friend, these self-directed courses are designed to help you better understand the challenges that can arise and provide practical strategies to support recovery and day-to-day life.

How to sign up

If you’d like to enrol yourself, or refer someone else to take part, simply click the ‘sign up’ button.

Once we’ve received your submission, we’ll enrol the nominated participant and begin sending the course by email. Depending on the course selected, you’ll receive either a single email or a series of up to four weekly emails containing videos and supporting resources.

Understanding brain injury

An introduction to brain injury and its impact on everyday life. This course explores what happens when the brain is injured, the common cognitive, emotional and behavioural changes that can occur, and why recovery is different for everyone. It provides a foundation for understanding brain injury and the rehabilitation process.

This course consists of four emails, sent weekly.

The course will cover:

Physical Effects after Brain Injury

This course focuses on the physical changes that can occur following a brain injury, including fatigue, balance and coordination, movement, weakness, pain and changes in sensation. It also explores practical strategies to manage these symptoms, maximise independence and support everyday activities.

Relationships after Brain Injury

Experiencing a brain injury does not only impact the individual. It can have a profound impact on the quality of an individual’s relationships, including friendships, romantic relationships, extended family and work relationships. 

This course explores the key changes and challenges that may occur in relationships following a brain injury.

Managing Emotions After Brain Injury

This course is designed for those who have experienced changes in mood following a brain injury, for example feeling low, anxious, irritable or having mood swings. 

Over course, we will explore common emotional changes after brain injury, why they happen, and what you can do to manage them.
